Consumers Are Still Saying They Trust Cash - Despite COVID-19

Updated: Jun 29, 2022

Recent studies by Javelin Strategy, in conjunction with Cardtronics, discovered the cash continues to be an important payment strategy for consumers.

Cash remains the third most popular form of payment, after credit and debit cards. It also remains ranked number one for smaller transactions.

And, despite the purported risks of using physical payments amidst the COVID-19 epidemics, one-in-four consumers agree that cash is "very safe". This assertion is supported by recent statements from both the WHO and the CDC regarding transmission of the virus from banknotes and surfaces in general.
